Privacy policy

The short version
Goodtern is built to know as little about you as possible. No account is required, we don't sell data, and your preferences live in your own browser — not on our servers.
What we store, and where
By default everything lives in your browser's local storage on your device: your preference sliders, saved searches, saved travellers, your travel profile (home airport, preferred cabin, time of travel and airline), the repeat routes you ask us to watch, and a short history of your searches. Clearing your browser data removes it all completely.
How Goodtern learns your prices
To tell you when a fare is a good deal or when to buy, Goodtern keeps a short, on-device log of your recent searches — the route, cabin, date and the lowest price we showed. It's used only to learn your "usual price" for a route and power the For You and best-time-to-buy features. It stays on your device (and in your account if you're signed in), and is never sold or shared.
Accounts & cross-device sync
Signing in is optional and passwordless — you sign in with a one-time link sent to your email; we never ask for or store a password. If you create an account, your saved travellers and preferences are synced to your account so they follow you across devices. This includes the passenger details you choose to save — names, dates of birth and contact details — which you can edit or delete any time on your profile page. We never store payment card details.
Fare-watch emails
If you're signed in and turn on fare-watch alerts, we'll email you when one of your watched routes hits its cheap window or the price drops. To do this we store the email address you provide and use a third-party email provider (Resend) to send the messages. It's strictly opt-in — turn it off any time on your For You page — and we only email you about the routes you chose to watch, never marketing you didn't ask for.
The AI assistant
When you message the assistant, your message, your current preference settings and a summary of the flights on screen are sent to our server and forwarded to Anthropic (the AI provider) to generate a reply. Don't include personal details you wouldn't want processed. We don't use your messages to identify you, and we don't store chat history server-side.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics, which is cookie-free and collects anonymous, aggregated page-view data (no cross-site tracking, no personal profiles).
Affiliate & partner tracking
To earn commission on flights you book through our "View deal" links, we can load a script from our affiliate partner, Travelpayouts, that sets third-party cookies and tracks referrals across sites so bookings are attributed to us. It is off by default and only loads if you accept via the cookie banner shown on your first visit — decline (or clear your stored choice) to opt out. Travelpayouts processes any data it collects under its own privacy policy.
Hosting and logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard technical request data (such as IP addresses) to serve the site and protect it from abuse, including our rate-limiting. This data is not used to identify you.
Outbound links
"View deal" links take you to third-party sites (e.g. flight booking services) that have their own privacy policies. Some of these may be affiliate links, meaning we can earn a commission on bookings at no extra cost to you.
Booking & payment data
If you book a flight, the passenger details you enter (names, dates of birth, contact details) are sent to the airline through our booking provider (Duffel) to issue your ticket. Card payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number. We keep a record of your booking reference and the amount charged.
Your rights & contact
Since we hold essentially no personal data about you, most data requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser storage. For anything else, contact us at goodterntravel@outlook.com.
